The xx at United Palace Theatre last night

I was disappointed to leave the @muggphoto party early, but was glad I got to see The xx perform last night. I’ve been listening to their album quite a bit this year.

As I suspected from their videos, they don’t have much stage presence, but I enjoyed the music.

The acoustics at the United Palace Theatre are not that good, though. You could hear the walls vibrate when there was heavy bass. That plus the assigned seating and the almost an hour and a half journey it took from Fort Greene to 175th street made me wish it was at another venue, but at least it wasn’t Terminal 5.

My dumpling interview in Blast Magazine. Did I really say “obsessed?”

From Blast Magazine:

In line for the Korean dumplings, Manhattan resident Tom Burke was eager to satisfy his dumpling cravings.

“I’m obsessed with dumplings,” Burke proclaimed. His obsession once took him on an adventure to nine different restaurants in one evening to try and find the best dumpling in the city.

“The key to the perfect dumpling is the texture. A little crunchy, but not too hard — juicy meat — a little fat, but not too much fat.” But what really makes it perfect is a little pop of extra flavor, he said.

His favorite: Lan Zhou on East Broadway (a little hole-in-the-wall on the Lower East Side). “It’s got this ginger spice flavor… it just nails it,” he said.

I’m pretty sure I did not say I was “obsessed,” although she probably assumed that because how many people go to 9 dumpling joints in a day?

Considering how many photos they posted, my dumpling eating action shot must have really come out poorly to not make the cut!

Really enjoyed the Triumph Speed Triple, except for the 3 tickets I got!!

Went with Chris and 2 guys from Jupiter’s Motoshare up to Bear Mountain this morning. I finally got to ride the Triumph Speed Triple. Chris wanted me to get some practice on some other bikes before he let me on this little rocket.

Really enjoyed it, and will be taking it out for some more day rides. Once again I underestimated traffic, and I was rushing to return the bike after going up to The Cloisters. After I got over the Brooklyn Bridge, there was a stop light before the onramp to the BQE. There was a long line of cars, and while the light was red I rode up between them to cut to the front of the line. Just my rotten luck, there were 2 cop cars at the on ramp and I got pulled over. I didn’t really say anything and just waited for the ticket. The asshole cop must have been having a really bad day or was far behind his quota because he didn’t give me just 1 ticket. He didn’t just give me 2 tickets. The bastard gave me 3 tickets!

Driving between lanes, turning from a non-existent lane, and turning without my left turn signal on. The last two tickets are BS. I had moved in front of the car in the left lane when I pulled to the front, and it was a left turn only lane. I’ll have to go to court to fight them, because there’s no way I’m going to take 3 moving violations.

Finally hung my new photo, St Pancras 9:19 am Part 2, by Valery Lippens

It was almost a year ago that I saw this photoSt Pancras International Station 9:19 AM Part 2, by Valery Lippens. It’s part of his Haecceity series. After an extended negotiation, I bought it and it was shipped here by boat. It’s sat leaning against the wall for a few months, and today I finally got it hung on the brick wall in my office.

I’m happy with it. Given that I work with information about people, it really fits. Just need to figure out how to get the right lighting on it.

The upstairs bar at Peels has a prime view of the sign, which I shot the other day.
